Happy hour: no matter what time of day, NPC Bikini competitor Ali Sonoma puts a smile on our faces
by admin on Oct.30, 2009, under Uncategorized
Muscle & Fitness, Nov, 2009
Finally, the Show-Me State has produced something worth ogling: Ali Sonoma. With cat-green eyes; long, lean limbs; and a figure that could stop a charging rhino and make it cry, it’s no wonder the 5′7″ Missouri native beat out dozens of women to take the 2009 Arnold Amateur Bikini Championships. After a short stint in Hollywood and a year as a UFC Octagon Girl, 25-year-old Sonoma is now on her way to nursing school to heal the masses. We’re sure she has the cure to what ails us.
MUSCLE & FITNESS: Nice shots.
Are you a bar-goer?
ALI SONOMA: I’ll admit I did my fair share of keg stands and beer bongs in the past. But these days I’m not that into bars or beer; I’m more of a homebody. I like to read, watch movies and run with my dog.
M&F;: Is there anything you won’t shoot in front of a camera?
AS: I love to shoot lingerie and swimwear, and I’ll shoot artistic, implied nudes, but I would never shoot full-on naked pictures, where I’d be like, “Hey world, here I am!” Even if Playboy offered me a million dollars, I’d say no.
M&F;: What’s an ideal date?
AS: I’d love to take a guy to the range and shoot guns. I have a 22-gauge shotgun that I handle pretty well. If you’ve never shot a gun, you’ve got to try it. It’s exhilarating and badass. I don’t shoot animals–I’m an animal-lover–but I like to shoot sporting clays.
M&F;: Do you have good aim?
AS: I do, though at first I was shooting with the wrong hand. I was missing everything, and an instructor told me I might be left-eye dominant. I switched sides and all of a sudden I was spot-on accurate.
M&F;: You dated Diego Sanchez of the UFC. Does a guy have to be a badass to date you?
AS: Yeah, I think so [laughs]. It’s sexy to feel that a guy can protect me, to know that he could beat someone’s ass if he messed with me. That’s pretty hot! I also like a guy who takes care of himself physically. Athletic muscles are nice, but if a guy likes working out and eating more than he likes me, it’s a problem. And if he uses all my self-tanner, it’s over!
M&F;: Do guys use pick-up lines on you?
AS: All the time. Seriously, here’s my advice for all guys: The best way to approach a girl is to make eye contact with her. If she looks back at you, it’s usually a sign you can have a conversation with her.
M&F;: I hear you practice Bikram yoga?
AS: Yeah, I love it! It’s yoga done in a super-heated room, about 110 degrees F, so you sweat out your toxins. Sometimes the smell is kinda funky, but yoga calms me tremendously. If I’m super-stressed, I go to yoga and come out super-chill.
M&F;: Is it hot when a guy does yoga?
AS: Sure. Plus that flexibility can be laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding good for other things!
M&F;: You’re starting nursing school soon. Have you always been the nurturing type?
AS: Absolutely. I have two brothers and two sisters, and anytime they had a cut or were hurt or needed a tooth pulled when we were growing up, I took care of it. I want to help people, and nursing is a good way to do that.
M&F;: You’re not grossed out by the sight of blood?
AS: Not at all. But I am grossed out by slimy things like snakes and snails
SmarterTravel Readers’ Choice Awards: Low-cost Carriers Take the Day

Southwest Prevails While US Airways Fails
BOSTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ — SmarterTravelA’, the largest online travel resource of independent expert advice for the budget-conscious traveler, today announced the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards, a survey of more than 7,400 travelers, the majority of whom fly four to six times a year. Of no surprise is that value continues to win with travelers and price is deemed the most influential factor in determining airfare purchases.
Southwest swept several major categories including: Best Airfare Prices, Favorite Domestic Airline, and Best on Time Service, among others. JetBlue also got top marks while legacy carriers continue to lose their luster, in most part for adding fees. When asked which airline fees are the greatest gouge, readers responded:
-- Fees to check a bag (overwhelming at 62%) -- Ticket changing fees (19.3%) -- Booking online vs. in-person (7%) -- Fees for overweight checked cheap airfare bags (4.4%) -- Fees for snacks (4.3%)
“The story this year is really all about the fees and the fact that legacy carriers need to take a lesson from the low cost providers,” said Anne Banas, executive editor of SmarterTravel
Nonprofits Using Social Media to Engage and Share, Says Sage North America Survey
by admin on Oct.29, 2009, under Uncategorized
Market Wire, October, 2009
Sage North America today announced the results
of its recently conducted social media survey for nonprofit organizations
in the U.S. and Canada. One of the most interesting findings: 91% of
respondents raise funds online, but only 58 percent of those nonprofits
using social media cite fundraising as a goal for using it. “Sharing our
story,” building a community, public relations, and donor
engagement/retention — not raising funds — were listed as the nonprofits’
top reasons for engaging in social media.
“Nonprofit organizations are already using social media channels to
participate in conversations with their constituents, but we’re finding
that the majority of them are still trying to balance using social media paid surveys online as
a vehicle for fundraising with their internal time and resource capacity to
take advantage of it,” said Krista Endsley, senior vice president and
general manager for Nonprofit Solutions at Sage. “It seems that social
media still hasn’t become part of nonprofit organizations’ everyday
activities, perhaps simply because the organizations don’t think they have
enough expertise or time to do so.”
While online donations are growing, organizations are still trying to unite
their social media strategies effectively with their fundraising campaigns.
“The most successful nonprofits are capitalizing on social media, not by
simply tweeting a link to their donation form, but by using it as part of
an integrated campaign,” said Endsley. “Multiple touches with constituents
are what result in donations. Social media is helping nonprofits engage in
more ‘touches’ with more donors and, ultimately, raise more funds.”
Other findings from Sage’s social media survey for nonprofit organizations
include:
-- 88% of survey respondents are using some form of social media; more
than half of them have been using social media for less than a year
-- 45% of survey respondents that haven't adopted social media are unsure
of the relevance and advantages to their organization; other respondents
cited lack of time and resources and lack of understanding and expertise as
reasons for not participating in social media
-- The most popular type of social media used is general social
networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, followed by blogging and
microblogging; and YouTube is also widely used
-- 70% recognize social media as either very or somewhat important to
their organization, while only 9% are very satisfied
-- 20% of respondents spend more than five hours per week using social
media
Sage’s social media survey, sent via e-mail to The Chronicle of
Philanthropy newspaper subscribers with development titles from
organizations with annual operating budgets (AOBs) of more than $500K,
received a 17 percent response rate. Topics addressed in the survey
included types of social media; specific social media tools; types of
social media activities; social media goals and success; reasons for not
participating in social media; and acceptance of online donations.
Sage helps more than 2.9 million small and mid-sized businesses and
nonprofits in the U.S. and Canada, like the American Lung Association and
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, increase efficiency and more
easily manage their operations — from fund accounting, fundraising, and
donor management, to online donation processing, human resources, health
care, and payroll — through the use of technology

PDHI Announces GINA-Compliant Health Risk Assessment Available November 1st, 2009
by admin on Oct.28, 2009, under Uncategorized
PR Newswire, Oct 26, 2009
BERNARDSVILLE, N.J., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ — PDHI announces availability of ConXus Profile v2.5 on November 1st, providing clients with a GINA-compliant health risk assessment for employers beginning open enrollment.
The GINA regulations that come into effect on December 6th prohibit employers and health plans from collecting information about family medical history. The removal of these questions from the health risk assessment modifies many of the future disease risk algorithms used in the instrument.
PDHI conducted an analysis of 35,000 HRAs, across multiple groups, comparing pre- and post-GINA assessment results for future risk of developing breast cancer, colorectal cancer, depression, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Removal of family history information resulted in an average 5% shift towards lower risk across the population for each risk factor.
“Our clients have been inundated with requests from employers for a GINA-compliant HRA to support open enrollment,” says Jennifer Jolley, PDHI’s President. “The modular architecture of our ConXus Platform allowed us to respond rapidly to meet this need.”
ConXus Profile v2.5 is available in English and Spanish, for delivery online or using a scannable paper questionnaire. The release includes omron hem 712c changes to the following product components:
-- Questionnaire -- Member report -- Provider report -- Data export file -- Data elements available through member data Web Services
The upgrade also includes minor changes to the collection and assessment of data regarding smoking and physical activity, and the addition of questions regarding hearing and vision impairment, to provide full compliance with the 2009 NCQA Wellness and Health Promotion technical specifications.
The ConXus Profile aggregate reports allow data collected using v2.5 to be compared with data collected using previous versions of the HRA and with data loaded from other HRA vendors using PDHI’s proprietary third-party HRA data load methodology.
